Specialized Hiking Itineraries for South Africa, Namibia and Malawi
Travelling in harmony with nature and off the tourist paths is the most essential part of our hiking tours.
No matter whether group tour or individual hike, whether in South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia, Malawi or Rwanda, whether you are a beginner or an advanced hiker – we are experts for hiking tours in Southern Africa for every requirement.
As Southern Africa is not known as a classic hiking destination, it is possible to move more or less exclusively on the exciting trails, which meander through Southern Africa like in a spider web pattern leading active tourists to the regional highlights of our destinations.
One can experience Africa from a vehicle but you hear, smell and feel Africa on foot!
Some of the highlights of our hiking tours are:
South Africa – Majestic Drakensberg Mountains, Walking Safaris in the Kruger Park and Hiking the mystic Table Mountain National Park: The Zulu call the Drakensberg Mountains ‘uKhahlamba’ (meaning: „Wall of the positioned spears“), due to the many ravines, crests, caves, precipices as well as pinnacles. The clear mountain air far away from civilization, the numerous waterfalls, wild flowers, bird life and many high, variously shaped mountains, make this one of the most beautiful hiking destinations in Africa. In 2000 it was declared an UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.
You will experience a top class adventure in the Kruger-National Park. The thrill of walking, tracking and getting up close to one of the animals in the wild is an unforgettable experience. On the walks there is a lot of emphasis on all the interesting trees, plants, insects and birds. A Table Mountain crossing with an overnight stay high on top on the plateau perfectly rounds off every South Africa trip.
Lesotho: Africa’s „Roof of the World“: Lesotho is a hiker’s paradise: Its formidable terrain is created by the sheer walls of the Drakensberg and Maluti mountains, which give sanctuary to a unique developing nation. The friendly Basotho are one of the few mountain people in Africa and have developed a rich culture in isolated villages. The entire country of Lesotho lies 1000m above sea level and boasts Thabana-Ntlenyana, at 3482m, the highest peak in Africa south of Kilimanjaro. The country is criss-crossed by a network of exciting bridle and foot paths, surrounded my magnificent scenery.
Namibia – Magic of the desert: Namibia is the country of impressive canyons, towering red sand dunes, rising inselbergs and green oases in riverbeds. From open plains featuring striking quiver trees, to relaxing at the campfire and sleeping under the stars – hiking is a real pleasure in Namibia. Let us show you the “fairy circles” and how to read the “desert newspaper” in the morning. Enjoy the special atmosphere of the country with its rich history, its wide-open spaces, its inviolacy and its many wild animals that you will encounter on your safaris.
Malawi – Insider tip in Africa: Mount Mulanje – the highest mountain in south-central Africa, one of the world’s largest granite inselbergs offers some of the best granite climbing in the world. The massif is broken up by deep gorges down which rivers with spectacular waterfalls tumble. Stunning scenery, easy access, clear paths and well-maintained huts make Mount Mulanje a fine hiking and trekking area. After your 4-day climb, you will experience Africa’s wildlife close-by at fantastic Liwonde National Park, before warm waters and sandy beaches await you while kayaking at Lake Malawi. The islands Mumbo and Domwe are two wonderful gems in the southern part of the Lake Malawi and you will feel like Robinson Crusoe on a luxury vacation while staying at the isolated island camps.
Rwanda: Tracking the Mountain Gorillas: The „country of a thousand hills“ fascinates with unique landscapes such as tropical rain and cloud forests and huge volcano massifs. Rwanda is a destination off the current tourist track. Tracking the gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park as well as the Colobus monkeys in the Nyungwe National Park are the highlights of every trip to this country of a thousand hills. Our more challenging hiking tours include the climb to the summit of Mount Karasimbi, the highest volcano in the country with an altitude of about 4507 metres.
